Salon Business

Salon Business - The Eco Hair Mag, is both a print and digital magazine sharing the latest trends, business advice and breaking news from the hair industry.

Sustainability has been at the core of its business model since the Salon Business brand was reinvented at the end of 2022. Simultaneously, SB Eco was launched... The UK’s dedicated event for hairdressers who want to satisfy a growing base of eco-conscious clients. It brings together forward-thinking brands, green innovation, and industry experts to help the hair industry reduce their impact while growing success.

From planet-positive products to practical education and inspiring talks, SB Eco is your one-stop destination to discover how sustainability can power creativity, community, and profit.

Freelancing for the magazine involves liaising with PR teams to edit and schedule news stories online for its website. Its digital content strategy reflects the brand's eco direction, such as detailing Anne Veck and Keith Mellen’s leading roles in a webinar for the UK Business & Biodiversity Forum. This called on the hair and beauty sector to help reverse the catastrophic decline in nature.

Or promoting the launch of revolutionary green hair products like L’Alga’s algae imbued line, created using sustainable, seaweed hand-harvesting methods.

Coverage has also included the following
B Corp Certified brands;

Great Lengths hair extensions recognised for its commitment to ethical business, sustainability, traceable Indian hair sourcing, and social responsibility.

Scrummi biodegradable salon towels.

Olivia Garden hair tools which uses business as a force for good for people, planet and professionals.

Evo Hair cruelty-free professional hair products.

Green Salon Collective which recycles, composts, and recovers salon waste from hair to foils.

Content has also supported global campaigns such as Earth Month by highlighting brands who are actively supporting it. For example B Corp Certified Aveda's partnership with charity: water (a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing clean and safe water to those in need).

Content is often designed to support the hairdressing community. For example features on the Hair and Beauty Charity offering practical and financial support for Hair & Beauty Pros experiencing hardship.

Articles also encourage charitable community action like donating hair to the Little Princess’ Trust charity, which provides free, real-hair wigs to children and young people, and funds childhood cancer research.

Or Haircuts4Homeless, a charity that connects skilled hairdresser volunteers with homeless individuals.

I have gained 8 years of freelancing experience for the trade magazine, which involves liaising with PR teams to edit and schedule online news stories at www.salonbusiness.co.uk. I have also contributed pieces to its print magazine, which you can find examples of HERE.

Sam looks after our online news and social media. She is very knowledgeable about new platforms, suitable strategies and constant analysis to make sure we get the most from each of our channels, tailoring content for maximum effect. I have full confidence in Sam and comfortably put the social side of my business in her hands,
— Joanne Charlton, SB Publishing Editor.
